आपने Harshad Mehta scam ke बारे में तो सुना ही होगा l Harshad Mehta was a Big Bull. 1992 scam made him infamous as a Market Manipulator. Scam ke पहले SEBI ek non-statutory body थी जो 1988 me establish हुई l It became an autonomous body on 12 April 1992 and was accorded statutory powers with the passing of the SEBI Act 1992 by the Indian Parliament. SEBI का headquarter 🏢 Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai स्थित है l SEBI ka Structure, function, objectives, powers aur achievements तो हम देखते हैं l

The SEBI managed by: –

• The chairman is nominated by the Union Government of India🇮🇳.
• Two members, i.e. Officers from Union Finance Ministry.
• One member from the Reserve Bank of India.
• The remaining five members are nominated by the Union Government of India, out of them at least three shall be whole-time members.

Functions of the SEBI: –

• Securities exchange के laws को approve करती है l
• SEBI recognized Securities exchanges या financial intermediaries के Books of accounts ko check कर सकती है l
• SEBI can call for periodical returns from recognized Securities exchange.
• Registration of Brokers and Sub-broker
• Compel certain companies to get listed on one or more stock exchanges

• To safeguard the rights of the investor
• To curb fraudulent practices by maintaining a balance between statutory regulation and self-regulation.
• To define the code of conduct for the brokers, underwriters, and other intermediaries.

Achievements 🏅 of the SEBI: –

SEBI has enjoyed success as a regulator by pushing systematic reforms aggressively and successively. SEBI is credited for quick movement towards making the markets electronic and paperless by introducing T+5 rolling cycle form July 2001 and T+3 in April 2002 and further to T+2 in April 2003. The rolling cycle of T+2 ka मतलब, Trade date के 2 दिन bad settlement ko complete करना l SEBI ne retail investors ke liye application limit को 1,00,000 se बढ़ाकर 2,00,000 कर दिया है l SEBI has also been instrumental in taking quick and effective steps in light of the global meltdown and the Satyam fiasco.
