Agriculture in India 🇮🇳

The history of Agriculture 🌽 in India dates back to Indus Valley Civilization and even before that in some places of Southern India. Worldwide farm outputs मै India की second rank है l As of 2018, agriculture employed more than 50% of the Indian workforce but agriculture country के GDP मैं सिर्फ 17-18% contribute कहता है l India has seen a huge growth in cooperative societies, mainly in the farming sector, since 1947 जब India को Britain se independence मिली l The country has networks of cooperatives at the local, regional, state and national levels that assist in agricultural marketing. Foodgrains 🌾, jute, cotton, sugar, milk 🍼, fruits 🍎, nuts जैसे commodities ko handle करने में state governments help करती है l State government of Maharashtra led to more than 25,000 cooperatives being set up by the 1990s.

In 2016, agriculture and allies sectors like animal husbandry 🐄, forestry, and fisheries accounted for 15.4% of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) with about 31% of the workforce in 2014. What are APMCs and its role?

Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMC) is a marketing board established by a state government in India. It ensures farmers 👨‍🌾 are safeguarded from exploitation by large retailers, as well as ensuring the farm to retail price spread does not react excessively high levels. APMC ke market yard ko ‘Mandis’ कहा जाता है l
Farmers agricultural produce, food ko market yard (mandis) मै लाते है l Mandis me auction create kiya जाता है l Satisfied market price पर farmers अपने agricultural produce ko बेच देता है l Yaha farmers ko assured price मिलती है aur APMCs को tax जो state government collect करती हैं l यह practice state के अंदर APMCs me perform की जाती है l During these activities there is not any third party involved here.

What is MSP?

The Minimum Support Price (MSP) is an agricultural product price set by the Government of India to purchase directly from the farmer. The rate is to safeguard the farmer to a minimum profit for the harvest if the open market has a lesser price than the cost incurred. Farmers हमेशा MSP rates ko increase करने की ki demand करते हैं l Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds aur Commercial crops मे से तकरीबन 23 commodities ko MSP mechanism cover करती है l Most of the agricultural commodities which comes under MSP is produced in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, etc.
